Dale L. Collins, age 90, of Fremont and Grand Rapids passed away Thursday, January 20, 2000, Spectrum Health Downtown Campus, following a long illness. He was born on May 21, 1909 in Dayton Township near Fremont, the son of Jesse and Suranda Collins. He married Lucile Fitzsimmons on June 3, 1934. He was a 45 year Gerber Products Administrative retiree serving on the Gerber Employees Credit Union Board for 31 years, 15 of those years as president. He served as the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce before its reorganization into a strictly business organization. At the time of his death, Dale was a Life Emeritus Elder of the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ. He was a life member of Newaygo Pilgrim Lodge # 131 Free and Accepted Masons and Past Master of Pilgrim Lodge # 180 of Fremont. Other activities included life membership of Unity Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Past Worthy Patron of Magnolia Chapter #70 of Fremont, member of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the Scottish Rite Consistory and Saladin Shrine Temple of Grand Rapids, and life member of the Institute of Management Accountants. He is survived by his children Mary Ellen Patterson-Happel and her husband Richard Happel of Comstock Park, Betty Jane Wunderlin of Newaygo, and Mabe Riley Brown and her husband Van Brown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; son Milton Dale Collins and his wife Barbara of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lucile on January 4, 1990. A Memorial Masonic Service was held on Sunday evening January 23, 2000, from the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 24, at the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ with the Rev. David Dickinson Officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, the family asks that friends consider the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ or the Shrine Crippled Childrens Fund.
