Ruthven, Dan A. Dan A. Ruthven, age 69 of Fremont, passed away Sunday morning, February 15, 2004 at his home. He was born on December 18, 1934 in Grand Rapids to John Wallace and Mildred (Castle) Ruthven and married Mary Jane Sweers on Ocober 1, 1953 in Coopersville. Mary preceded him in death on February 13, 2001. Dan had been a manager at Valuland in Fremont and then owned and operated Dans IGA in Fremont and White Cloud for several years. Dan was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and was an avid NASCAR Fan; enjoyed coin collecting; baseball and bowling; was a World War II history enthusiast and served on the Fremont Fire Department for 19 years until retirement. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Tim) Weiden of Fremont; sons, Dan (Kris) Ruthven of Fremont; Dave (Toni) Ruthven of Wyoming, MI; 9 grandchildren, Tim (Jeanne) Weiden; Matt (Talitha) Weiden; Chris Weiden; Amanda Ruthven; Samantha Ruthven; Eric Ruthven; Michael Ruthven; Marissa Ruthven; Alec Ruthven; special family friend, Evelynn Zerlaut; sisters and brothers, John (Dorothy) Ruthven of Manistee; Shirley (John) Sapkowski of Manistee; Helen Rust of Montague; Mary Barrett of Coopersville; Bill Ruthven of Florida; Arlene (Carroll) Farrell of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Wendell Behrens of Arizona. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Behrens. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 from the Fremont United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Wood and Rev.
