Daniel J. Homan, age 71, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2021 surrounded by his beloved wife, Eileen, and his daughters. Dan was born and raised in Hesperia, Michigan where he was a transformational leader, coach, teacher and mentor to thousands of students over three decades of community service always with his 'Queen' Eileen by his side at every step. He was known to all as Dan, Big Red, Dan the Man, and his most valued monikers, Mr. Homan and Coach Homan. Dan coached football, wrestling and softball for decades and also had stints at his first sport love influenced by his Dad, baseball, in addition to basketball and golf. Making a difference and helping kids realize their full potential and to reach farther is what drove his efforts. Dan received numerous local, regional and state wide awards and recognition for his commitment to young people and community including the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame that was presented to him by Lloyd Carr representing his lifelong love of the University of Michigan inspired by his idol Uncle Floyd Thompson Jr.. Multiple times, he was named the Michigan Wrestling Association Coach of the Year among many other accolades. Dan was a graduate of Hesperia High School and was a proud Panther for life who bled Green & White. He attended Western Michigan University and completed his Bachelor's Degree at Ferris State University before going on to complete his Master's at Central Michigan University. Education was a significant priority stressed by his equally community minded parents, Rex and Arlene Homan, who preceded him in death. His parents left him a legacy impressing the importance of family and a deep connection to his community. He married his high school sweetheart, Eileen (Sanoff), and is survived by her and their four daughters, Michelle (Dan) Bierman of Hesperia, MI, Julie (Jamie) Aiken, of Grand Rapids, MI, Jennifer Homan of Miami, FL and Heather (Justin) Oldt of Bluffton, SC. Dan adored his grandchildren Alexandra Martin, Angela Martin, Tyler Martin, Jake Gutch, Liam Aitken, Brent (Holly) Bierman, and his great-grandchildren Kaydence Bierman, Zed Bierman, and newest addition Mateo Castillo who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his siblings Gary (Margene) Homan of Beaverton, MI, Craig (Eileen) Homan of Franklin, TN, and Susan Anderson of Hesperia, MI, and many amazing nieces and nephews. Through the influence of his cherished grandfather, Floyd Thompson, Dan learned to respect nature and living creatures and the joy of outdoor pursuits through hunting and fishing, He spent many hours outdoors or in the infamous 'man cave' with his buddies Jim, Mark, Bob, Jerry, Joe, Dave, Gary, Tom and John as well as countless others. His friends were important to him and were considered part of the Homan family, Visitation will be at Crandell Funeral Homes in Fremont on Monday, June 28th from 5-8 pm and Tuesday, June 29th from 4-6 pm with the funeral to follow at 6 pm. In lieu of gifts or flowers the family would ask that you contribute to the Dan and Eileen Homan Scholarship fund at the Fremont Area Community Foundation. The fund was established by their daughters to help Hesperia High School student-athletes continue their higher educational goals and honor the Homan's legacy of commitment to community.
