Dan P. Maitland, age 74 of Holton, passed away Friday at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Dan was born on July 5, 1937 in Leroy, Michigan to Charles and Florence (Miller) Maitland and later married Linda (Church) Wilks on March 12, 1983 in Grand Rapids. Dan has been a construction worker in Muskegon until his retirement. Dan was also a musician and had played from the time he was a young boy, playing with many bands in the area, until a stroke left him unable to play in 1996. Dan loved to hunt and fish, and do carpentry work. Dan was a member of the Reeman Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. Dan is survived by his wife, Linda of Holton; his children, Matthew (Cindy) Maitland of Arizona; Danya (Wes) Hilton of Muskegon; Gregory Maitland of Muskegon; Dale Maitland of Muskegon; Lenny Noble of Muskegon; Denise Maitland of Muskegon; Leslie Franklin of Muskegon; step children, Kevin (Patty) Wilks of Fremont; Jeffrey Wilks of Holton; Tara (Ken) Robinson of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Helen Artz of Beleair Bluffs, Florida; Duane (Val) Maitland of Muskegon; Alice Wildt of Muskegon; Virginia (Lawrence) Passinier of Muskegon; Gloria Decker of Muskegon; Ted Maitland of Muskegon; Elaine (Jack) Baun of Muskegon; Charles (Christine) Maitland of Grant. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Maitland; brother, Jerry Maitland; step daughter, Tami Jo Anible and his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Marie Church.
