Daniel J. Pope, age 67, of White Cloud passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at his home. Dan was born on May 17, 1948, in Waukegan, Illinois to Norman and Duan (Scherer) Pope. He married Sandra Lee Horner on April 11, 1980. Dan was a machine repair Journeyman at Gerber Products Company until his retirement in 2013. Dan was a proud and decorated Marine Corp. Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded combat, conduct, defense, service and campaign medals during his service to his country. Once a Marine always a Marine. He lived it. He belonged to and supported many charities. Dan loved history, especially as it related to war. Dan enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, golf, his Harley motorcycle, and his dog Hairy. He often said: If Hairy were any smarter, he would have to get a job. Most importantly, Dan loved being a father to all of his children and spending time with his family. Dans cookouts usually consisted of his famous BBQ porkchops that everyone requested. Dan always had a deep hearty laugh and a good sense of humor. He shared many laughs with his family. Dan is survived by his wife, Sandra: children, John, Jennifer (Roger), Joe (Katherine), Scott, Pat (Amy), Chris (Michelle), and Anna (Ryan); many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Karen Mutchler, David Pope, Cheryl (Wendy Spaulding) Fletcher, and Bobby (Brenda) Fletcher; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy and brother, Tim. A time of remembrance and military honors will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the Gerber Union Hall (5960 Warner Ave.) in Fremont from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider his favorite charities, Wounded Warrior Project or Toys for Tots.
