Daniel George Smith, age 75 of Sitka, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Beaumont Taylor Hospital in Taylor Michigan following a lingering illness. Dan was born on May 22, 1946 in Sitka to Harry H. and Rosa M. (Crawford) Smith and graduated from Fremont High School in 1965. Dan joined the United States Navy after graduation until his honorable discharge and then served in the Naval Reserve Units until 1971. Dan had worked at the Gerber Products Company in the maintenance department for 33 years until his retirement and has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area. Dan enjoyed living on the family farm and was an avid bowler who bowled on the Mighty Lube Bowling Team for many years. Dan is survived by his brother, Herbert Smith; his sister, Marjorie Smith; and special friends he considered his family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Smith. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in the Spring of 2022 to honor Dan when the daffodils, which he loved, bloom on the family farm. Further date and time information will be updated when they become available. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont and Sitka, Michigan.
