Obituary

Darold Wayne Baker, age 72 of Hesperia, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Wayne was born on October 13, 1948 in Hesperia to Robert B. and Shirley M. (Gray) Baker and has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia Area. Wayne and his wife, Judy (Frankenberger) began their journey together on August 4, 1969 and were married on December 31, 1973 in Hart, Michigan. Wayne had worked at Sheldon's Manufacturing in Muskegon, had worked in construction and masonry and owned his own woodworking business for several years. Wayne and Judy became foster care providers from 1992 – 1999 then Wayne became a volunteer driver for the Newaygo County Mental Health, Commission on Aging and Department of Health and Human Services until his retirement. Wayne enjoyed working in his woodshop - building cabinets, chests and anything with wood and had enjoyed fishing and hunting. Wayne had a strong faith and a heart for service and this continued even after his passing as he was able to donate his cornea's to assist 2 blind persons with sight by donating his eyes. Wayne is survived by his wife, Judy of Hesperia; his daughter, Lauri Marshall of Hesperia; his sons, Timothy J. Rose of Hesperia; Jeffery A. Marshall of New Mexico; his grandchildren, Dustin Hobby, Amber Hobby both of Nebraska; Christina Marshall of Hesperia; Kristen Chapman and Brandi (Evan) Brabham of Mississippi; Kaleigh Houle of Indiana; his great grandchildren, Demitre Sweet; Sadie Brabham, Brooklyn Brabham, Bailey Brabham; his sisters, Lorraine Klinger of Fremont; Carol Wemple of Hesperia; Sandra (Benjamin) Johns of Muskegon; Colleen (Michael) Arcello of Hesperia; sister-in-law, Patty (Tom) Smith of Muskegon; brother-in-law, Ray Bowman of Muskegon; numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Marshall on January 24, 2000; his great grandson, Isaiah Sweet on July 5, 2010; his brothers and sister, Larry Vanderstelt, Don Baker, Carl Baker, Rick Baker and Violet Hart. A graveside service will be held in April 2021 at the West Hesperia Cemetery with dates and times to be posted to this web page when the services are set. CELEBRATION OF LIFE service will be held in the in summer of 2021 at the family home to gather and celebrate with more people with the time and date to be announced later. Friends may consider the Baker family to assist with a cemetery monument in memory of Wayne for memorial contributions.
