David William Portz, age 65, of Newaygo passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Spectrum Health Services Gerber Memorial in Fremont. Dave was born on April 27, 1948 in Royal Oak to William and Marie Joan (Wood) Portz married Barbara J. Westgate on March 29, 1969 at the Bills Lake Bible Church. Dave worked construction and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. Dave is survived by his children, Penny (Alec) Chesley of Newaygo, and Deanna (Nick) Beery of White Cloud; grandchildren, Cole A. Chesley, Kylee M. Chesley, Katy L. Chesley, and Zander N. Beery; mother, Marie; brother, Michael (Jerry) Portz of Prudenville; sister, Donna (Levi) Moses; sister-in-law, Teri Portz; and brother-in-law, Richard Walker. Dave was preceded in death by his father, William; wife, Barbara; sister, Patty; and brother Steve. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Crandell Funeral Home in White Cloud. There will be visitation to meet with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Big Prairie Cemetery.
