Delores I. VanLiew, age 83 of Brohman, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids following a short illness. Delores was born on December 2, 1934 in Pigeon, Michigan to Martin Peter and Catherine Marie (Lacario) Arriaga II. Delores later graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelors of Education Degree in 1955 and married H. Blaine VanLiew on October 29, 1955, in Saginaw. Blaine preceded her in death on December 23, 2016. Together, Delores and Blaine purchased a general store and gas station in Brohman in 1971 and settled in the area permanently at that time. Over the next 40 years, Blaine and Delores opened two restaurants and also worked as subcontractors for Fed-EX Custom Critical. Delores enjoyed traveling, visiting antique shops, gaming, but was most happy when she was with her family at family gatherings. Delores is survived by her children, Cheryl (Glenn) Ackerman of Warrenton, Georgia, Cathy (Philip) Baumgartner of Brohman, Tina (Marshall) Benjamin of Brohman, and Joe Van Liew of Laughlin, Nevada; her grandchildren, Nicole Ackerman, Eric Ackerman, Joshua Baumgartner, Jerimiah Baumgartner, Catherine Lusk, Kristy (Jon) Withrow, Asa Van Liew, Coty Van Liew, Joseph Van Liew, Tylor Van Liew, and Balana Van Liew; great-grandchildren, Alexzandra Miller, Morgan Miller, Garrett Miller, Destiny Ackerman, Desiray Ackerman, Anthony Ackerman, Rebeca VanZalen, Angel Baumgartner, Audri VanDyke, Jordan Baumgartner, William Baumgartner, Raelin Baumgartner, Natalia Baumgartner, Dominic Withrow, and Elizabeth Withrow; soon to be added granddaughter; one great great grandson, AJ; her sister, Aurelia Collver of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews. Delores was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, H. Blaine and her brother, Martin Peter Arriaga III.
