Obituary

Denny L. Hamlin of Newaygo, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home. Denny was born on February 7, 1943 in Kalkaska, Michigan to Clark and Ellie (Henderson) Hamlin and met and later married Kathy Dolan on November 18, 1979 in Grand Rapids. Denny and Kathy moved to the Newaygo area in 1980 and have been longtime residents. Denny had been a machine operator for the CSX Railroad Company for many year until his retirement. Denny also served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era where he received a Purple Heart. Denny had enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Denny is survived by his wife, Kathy Hamlin of Newaygo; his children, Renee (Craig) Peabody of Oregon; Karin (Ken) Granger of White Cloud; Denise Jones of Morley; Diane (Mick) Thome of Morley; Jennifer (Roger) Mumah of Morley; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his sister, Geraldine Moore of Greensboro, North Carolina; his brothers, John (Judy) Warner of Wyoming, Michigan; Ray Hamlin of Grand Rapids; Roy (Shirley) Hamlin of Brethren; his special friend, Gary Smith whom he visited every day; several nieces and nephews. Military memorial services were held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Croton American Legion, Walter F. Howarth Post #381. Friends may consider the Denny Hamlin family to assist with funeral expenses for memorial contributions in memory of Denny.
