Derilda M. Rattin, age 99 of Fremont, passed away Saturday evening at the Fountain View Retirement Village in Fremont. Derilda was born on June 5, 1916 in Beaverville, Illinois to Harvey and Celia (Curby) Varboncoeur and later met and married Gloss P. Rattin in October 22, 1944 in Indiana. Gloss preceded her in death on April 12, 1986. Derilda and Gloss moved to the Fremont area in April 1946 from St. Anne, Illinois. Derilda and Gloss enjoyed attending barn dances in their younger years where Gloss was a musician in the band. Derilda had been a farmer on the corner of Green and 64th Street for many years and loved farming and gardening. She was well known for growing her gladiolas and rubarb and traveled to the farmers market in Muskegon and early days of the Fremont farmers market. Derilda was a faithful member of the Fremont United Methodist Church which she attended almost every Sunday until her health declined when she turned 94. Derilda is survived by her brothers, Joseph Varboncoeur and Paul Varboncoeur both of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. Derilda was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin and Ambrose Varboncoeur and her sister, Marylen Billings.
