Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dianne Ellen Walker-Roberts, who peacefully departed this world on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont. Born on May 16th, 1945, in Seattle, Washington to John Robert & Dorothy Ellen (Graham) Maurer. Dianne brought warmth and brightness with her throughout her life.  She had a way of making everyone feel special, loved, and important. Her smile could light up a room, and her heart was always full of love and understanding.

Dianne devoted her life to caring for others, which was reflected in her 22-year career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Michigan, where she retired in 1999. Her compassion extended well beyond her professional life. She taught her family the value of hard work, perseverance and finding joy in the little things. She also enjoyed racing cars on the outdoor race track.

Together with her late husband, Harold Lee Roberts, Dianne embarked on a mission to foster global friendships and humanitarian efforts through their initiative, Growing/Global Friendship. The couple traveled to Russia, delivering clothing, food, medical supplies, and love. They also established a local pantry in Newaygo County to "Fill the Gaps" and support families in need. Their efforts were aligned with Feeding America out of Grand Rapids, ensuring countless families were cared for during challenging times.

Dianne's nurturing spirit lives on through her family, including her daughter, Michelle (Sandy) Walker-Bivins, son, Shawn (Kelly) Walker, brother, Robb Maurer, and her beloved grandchildren Ashley (RJ) Long, Darion (Jacob) Thompson, and Axel (Shaye) Roest. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Deekan & Tred Long and Lyxi & Marley Thompson, and had a special place in her heart for her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, John Robert & Dorothy Ellen (Graham) Maurer, her husband, Harold Lee Roberts, her son, Shawn Allen Walker, and brother, Dan Maurer.

A celebration of Dianne's life will be held on Friday, December 13th, 2024. Visitation will take place at Crandell Funeral Homes Inc., Fremont, MI, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service officiated by Mary Lulofs at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be conducted at Fremont Maple Grove Cemetery at 2:15 pm.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Crandell Funeral Home for their assistance and support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Newaygo County Compassion Home or Feeding America.
