Obituary

Dolores "Dee" Mary Sharp, Age 95 of Newaygo passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021. Dee was born on September 6, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Anthony & Margaret Etzkorn. Dee came to live with her grandparents Clemens & Josephine Ravenkamp in Newaygo County when she was 18 months old. She attended Flowing Well Country School in Ensley Township through 8th grade. She graduated from Howard City High School and worked in the muck fields in Grant to help pay for expenses for high school. After graduation Dee worked at Gerber Products Traffic Department. She married Gordon "Buck" Sharp on April 19, 1958, in Newaygo where they made their home. Dee retired from Newaygo Public Schools where she drove school bus for 26 years. She was active with the Associates for the Blind walking to raise money to train dogs. She and Gordon spent their winters at Jet Trailer Park in Palmetto, Florida. Dee loved to walk. On her 85th birthday she walked the Mackinac Bridge. The walk was very special because her son, grandson and great granddaughter all walked, making it a four generation walk. Dee and Gordon loved to eat out daily, seeing and spending time with family and friends. She loved relaxing and picnicking at Sharp's Landing. Dee is survived by her children, Alan (Pamela) Sharp of Mackinaw City, David Sharp of Grant, Rachel (Joseph) Gibbons of Texas; eleven grandchildren, Steven Sharp of Gaylord, Michael (Alicia) Sharp of Grand Rapids, Jim (fiancée Leanne) Sharp of North Carolina, Lance Sharp of Grand Rapids, Asia (Thomas) Salazar, Joshua (Jessica) Gibbons, Anna (Tyree) King , Christopher Banacka, Nichole (Fred) Marin, Daniel Banacka, Rachel Banacka, all from Texas; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Schlichting of Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends and loved ones. Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; daughter, Linda Banacka; and great grandson, Trey Gibbons. Interment will be in Newaygo Cemetery next to her husband.
