Donald Frank Cross, age 81 of Fremont, spent his last weeks at home surrounded by his family and passed away on February 23, 2018. Donald was born on October 12, 1936 in Muskegon to Leman George and Laura Mae (Fox) Cross and graduated from Muskegon High School and served in the United States Naval Reserve. Don later married Karen Marie VerHulst on April 26, 1957 in Muskegon. Don retired from Campbell Wyatt and Cannon, where he was a pattern maker for many years and was a Union Steward. Don had been a school bus driver for Grant Public Schools for 7 years as well and had been a farmer for many years. Don attended the All Saints Catholic Church and the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brunswick and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Don had also been very active in CURSILLO and Marriage Encounters for many years as was the co-founder of Family Camp in 1986. Don was an avid sportsman and bow hunter, had been a teacher and mentor of hunting to his family and friends, enjoyed baseball and played on a AA baseball team in his younger years, enjoyed skeet shooting, was an avid golfer, had been a Cub Scout leader and was a longtime 4H supporter and leader of the Eager Beavers 4H Club. Don truly cherished the time he spent with his family.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen Marie Cross of Fremont; his children, Lynn Marie (Lonnie) Keech of Holton; Sharon Lee (Mark) Moore of Muskegon; James Raymond (Lisa) Cross of Grand Rapids; Alyssa Beth (Darrell) Bordeaux of Fremont; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his sister, Doris Simonelli of Muskegon; several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his children, Michael John Cross, infant daughters, Ann Marie Cross and Julie Marie Cross; his brother, Elwin Cross and sister, Nancy Bevins.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL : Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11am at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brunswick. INTERMENT : St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Muskegon.
