Donald Lee Hammersley, age 69 of Bitely, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Corewell Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.  Don was born on July 30, 1954 in St. Joseph to Alvin and Ednamay (Karn) Hammersley and graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1973.  Don met and married Cleta Rae Wolgamott on October 5, 1974 in Bitely and Don has been a resident of the Bitely area since.  Don co-owned and operated Wolgamott & Hammersley Tree Service in Bitely for 30 years and then retired from Magna Mirrors in Newaygo after 15 years of service.  Don was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.  He loved hunting, fishing, going to the casino, playing bingo, watching comedy shows and most of all, treasured his grandchildren and the time he spent with them.

Don is survived by his wife, Cleta of Bitely; his children, Trisha (Calvin) Aiken of Waterford, Michigan; Justin (Beth) Hammersley of Macomb, Michigan; Shanna (Dave) Brown of New Hudson, Michigan; his grandchildren – Connor and Cameron Aiken; Kaleb, Micah and Hannah Hammersley; Charlotte Brown; his brothers – Dennis (Wanda) Hammersley; Victor (Kathy) Gray; sister – Kathy Hurrle; several nieces and nephews.  Don was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Ednamay and Carl Ferrier; his father, Alvin Hammersley; his brothers, Frank James, Tom James; brother-in-laws, Albert Hurrle, and Gayle Wolgamott.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES : Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11:30am at the Amazing Grace Acres Church 762 W.
