Donald J. Hopper, age 90 of Fremont and White Cloud, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility following a short illness. Don was born on August 20, 1929 in White Cloud to Donald George and Gladys Viola (Burkett) Hopper and graduated from White Cloud High School in 1948. Don had worked in the CCC camps reforestation projects in the area after high school and later became a school bus driver for the White Cloud Public Schools for 20 years until his retirement in 1973. Don then started a new career painting houses for another 20 years. Don had a great love for animals, enjoyed hiking in the Michigan outdoors, gardening and drawing. He also enjoyed listening to Dixieland Jazz and older classic radio shows as well as classic television programs.
Don is survived by several nieces and nephews including, his niece, Cindy (Stewart) Sanders of Fremont; great niece, Ashley (Marcel) Sanders Garcia of Los Angeles, California; great nephew, Gabriel (Joy) Sanders of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, June (Archbold) Quinn in 1979 and by his brother, Dale Hopper on October 14, 1993.
A time of Celebration of Don's Life will be held later in the summer of 2020 at the Stone Lodge 4707 Trillium Springs Blvd. Fremont MI 49412. Future date and times will be announced later. Friends may consider memorial contributions to Bellwether Harbor (https://www.bellwetherharbor.org) in memory of Don.
