Lyons, Donald R. Donald R. Lyons, age 80 of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 10, 2005 at the Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. Don was born on December 27, 1924 in Mecosta County to John D. and Marguerite (Bonfoy) Lyons and married Audrey Mae Ladner on February 15, 1946 in Big Rapids. Don had been an engineer at the Gerber Products Company in Fremont until his retirement in 1987. He has been a resident of the Fremont area since 1951 when he moved from the Mecosta County. He was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church, life member of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsman's Post #4249; life member of the Pilgrim Lodge #131 F&AM and member of the Eastern Star and had served as past Worthy Patron. Don had served as a Sergeant in the United States Army where he was in the paratroopers. He was an avid golfer and loved to fix his grandchildrens cars. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Mae of Fremont; Judith "Judi" (Richard) Boes of Fremont; Paula Hansen of Fremont; 5 grandchildren, Tracie Wood, Misty Wood, Wendy (Darrin) Robeck, Alan (Candice) Hansen, Nicole Vining; 7 great grandchildren; his brothers, Gordon (Audrey) Lyons of Stanwood; Lewis (Delphina) Lyons of Grand Rapids; Roland (Agnes) Lyons of Big Rapids; Richard (Susan) Lyons of Big Rapids; sister-in-law, Pat Lyons of Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Vermelyea and by his brother, Carl Lyons. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 14, 2005 from the Fremont United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Wood presiding with interment in the Fremont United Methodist Church Memorial Garden. Military rites were given by the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249.
