Donald F. Maxson, age 93 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at his home following a lingering illness with Alzheimer's dementia. Don was born on September 8, 1926 in Fremont to John and Elizabeth (Hutchinson) Maxson and later married Mary Marie Paulson on April 3, 1947 in Dalton Township. Mary Marie preceded him in death on August 7, 2014. Don was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre until his honorable discharge. Don has been a lifelong resident of Newaygo County and moved to the White Cloud in 1966 from Fremont. Don had worked at Gerber Products Company in Fremont for 40 years until his retirement in 1987 as a hydraulic technician. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, being in the Michigan outdoors and simply enjoyed being at his home.
Don is survived by his children, Jeff (Paula) Maxson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tim (Michele) Maxson of White Cloud; Mary Ellen (Tim) Betke of White Cloud; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marie Maxson; his sister, Dora Kritzer; his brothers, Tommy Maxson, Paul Maxson, and Walter "Mike" Maxson.
Following Don's wishes cremation has taken place and private memorial services will be held later in the spring at the family home. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Donald Maxson family in memory of Don. Friends may send a condolence or share a memory online at www.crandellfh.com.
