Donald Merrill Ogg, age 79, of Newaygo went home to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, August 21, 2016. Don was born on October 7, 1936, in Lyons, Michigan to Merrill and Maude (Sandord) Ogg and married Mary Gene Towne on October 20, 1956, in White Cloud at the White Cloud Church of God. Don led an interesting life. From farming as a child and being a cowboy as a teenager to being a pilot as an adult. He worked in construction most of his life. He worked on many prominent buildings and homes in the area including the White Cloud Church of God. He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing that included trophy size game as well as being a guide to many others. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, horseshoes, horseback riding, and one of his favorite things was to fly. He enjoyed traveling with his family encompassing all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico. He helped people in trouble as an EMT as part of the search and rescue teams in Montana and Colorado. He was faithful to the Lord serving in several different capacities in the churches he attended where ever he lived. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Mary Gene; children, Gary (Lisa) Ogg of Black Hawk, Colorado, Randy (Robin) Ogg of Gainesville, Florida, Connie (Alan) Badger of Omaha, Nebraska, Dean Ogg of Tallahassee, Florida, and Marsha (Mark) Harvey of Kalamazoo, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Rosalie (Warren) Bolton on Big Rapids; Leola Allers of Big Rapids, Melva (Hank) Vroegendewey of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his brother in law Ray Allers. Services will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the White Cloud Church of God with Bishop Jim Fader officiating. There will be a time of visitation prior to the service at the Church starting at 11 AM. Interment will be in Morley Cemetery.
