Donald "Don" R. Myers, age 76 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the Green Acres Assisted Living Center in Fremont.  Don was born on June 19, 1947 in Fremont to Basil Elwood and Mercile Ferne (Brickey) Myers and graduated from Hesperia High School.  Don married Nancy Hunt on January 13, 1968 in Hesperia and Nancy preceded him in death on  December 24, 2006.  Don served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star for his service during the war.  Don has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia area where he started working at the Hesperia Police Department and later began a long career at the Newaygo County Sheriff's Department where he began as a deputy, road patrol captain, Detective and retired as Lieutenant after 33 years of service in law enforcement.  Don also served as an EMT and served on the Hesperia Fire Department for several years.    Don was community minded and enjoyed visiting with friends around town in Hesperia after retirement – especially coffee at the bait shop, enjoyed attending car shows, was a avid Detroit Tigers Fan and followed the Michigan Wolverines football.  Don's true enjoyment however, was watching and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting and school activities.

Don is survived by his sons and grandchildren, Chris (Becky) Myers and their children, Luke and Ben Myers of Grand Haven; Todd (Audree) Myers and their children, Brynlee and Blakely of Hart; his brothers, Charles (Pamela) Myers of Hesperia; William "Bill" (Diane) Myers of Hesperia; Dick (Cindy) Myers of Tennessee; other extended family members, Donna Hollowell, Barb (Rick) Martin; and Sandy Kaminski all of Hesperia; several nieces and nephews.  Don was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his brother, Darrel Myers.

VISITATION : Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 3-5pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 and Monday, February 5, 2024 from 10-11am at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.  MILITARY HONORS : Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.  FUNERAL SERVICES : immediately following Military Honors.  INTERMENT : West Hesperia (Newfield Twp.)
