Obituary

Donald Edward VanNett, age 83 of Holton, passed away Tuesday at the Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon following a short illness. Don was born on Oct. 6, 1927 in New Era, the 3rd of 5 children born to Milo and Catherine (Westfield) VanNett. Don married Elsiemae Canniff on Jan. 3, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003. Don later married Violet Snider on June 19, 2004. Don raised his family on a farm near Holton and had been a machine operator at Teledyne Continental Motors in Muskegon for 37 years until his retirement in 1990. Don had served on the Holton Township Planning Commission for several years and enjoyed the Michigan outdoors, farming, fishing and hunting. Don served in the US Army during WW II and was a member of the Holton American Legion Post #397. SURVIVORS : his wife, Violet of Holton; 8 children, Linda (Thierry) VanNett of Mukilteo, WA; Edward (Debra) VanNett of Twin Lake; Caroline (Michael) Russell of Twin Lake; Donna VanNett of Chicago; Daniel (Christine) VanNett of Deep River, CT; Mae (Steve) VanNett of Vallejo, CA; Richard (Elaine) VanNett of West Olive; Lori (Sean) Houlihan of Tacoma, WA; 23 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; his brother, Eugene (Judy) VanNett of Montague; 3 step children. Don was preceded in death by his oldest son, David VanNett Sr. on May 28, 1988. VISITATION : Thursday from 5-8 pm at Crandell Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the services. FUNERAL SERVICES : Friday at 11am at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. INTERMENT AND MILITARY RITES : Oakwood Cemetery in Holton. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Holton American Legion.
