Doris E. Hapeman, age 90 of Muskegon and formerly of Hesperia, passed away Friday, September 06, 2013 at the Sanctuary of the Park Nursing Center in Muskegon. Doris was born on June 10, 1923 to James Earl and Gladys Pearl (Slocum) Howard in Hart and later married Howard Hapeman on April 7, 1951. Howard preceded her in death in October 1976. Doris had been a longtime resident of the Hesperia area where she enjoyed making yarn poodles, baking and working with children. She had been a foster mother to over 33 babies over the years and was a member of the foster grandparent program. Doris had also served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Doris is survived by her adopted family, Sharon and Ron Hermance of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by nephews Bill Turner of Hart, Joe Niemczak of Lapeer, and Tom Vanderwest of Oregon; and nieces Jackie Stebelton of Wayland, Karen Foster of Hart, and Katy Lebbing of Illinois. Doris is also survived by special friends Sharon and Bill Latch, as well as many special cherished friends. Doris was preceded in death by her brothers Joe Howard and Jim Howard. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2pm at the Twin Lake United Methodist Church in Twin Lake with interment in the St. Marys Cemetery in Muskegon. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital P O Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis TN 38148-0142 in memory of Doris.
