Doris (Zerlaut) Mulder, 97 years old, departed this earth on Thursday, May 25, 2023, to join her Father in Heaven, her husband, and many other loved ones. She leaves behind family and friends who celebrate her life of faith, love and selflessness and will miss her encouragement, wisdom, and wit.
Doris Kathleen and identical twin Donna Katherine were born on October 13, 1925, to Herman and Katherine (Kempf) Zerlaut on the family's centennial farm in Sitka, Michigan. They were the youngest children joining siblings LaVern (Jacqueline), Walter, and Maxine (Lawrence "Bub") Bolt.
Doris and Donna, inseparable sisters and confidantes, attended Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) and Vogue School of Design in Chicago. Throughout their lives, Doris and Donna used their creative design talents to enhance the lives of their grateful family and friends.
In 1954, Doris married Gerald (Jerry) Mulder who preceded her to Heaven in 2002. Together they faithfully parented two daughters Kathleen (Richard) Smith and Barbara (Bruce) Wagenmaker and grandparented Brenton Smith, Kaurina (Chandler) Hull, and Anna (Eric) Bouwkamp, and five great-grandchildren.
Doris dearly loved her nieces and nephews, too: Judy (Dornbos) Langejans and Walt Zerlaut especially blessed her with numerous visits and acts of love throughout her later years. Several of Doris' cousins and friends, too, encouraged her with on-going visits and correspondence. She appreciated every one of these caring individuals.
Doris and her husband Jerry were active members of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church and before that North Muskegon Methodist Church and Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, volunteering in many capacities to serve God and bless others. Doris will be remembered for her great love and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and most certainly she was greeted by Him with, "Well done, good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Lord" (Matthew 25:21).
Doris and her family want to thank the "angel" caregivers at The Cottages at Martin Lake and Corewell Spectrum Health Hospice who lovingly cared for her over the last several months of her life.
Doris' family will celebrate her life and graduation to glory in a private family memorial service. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to honor Doris' memory, may consider the Muskegon Rescue Mission. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends may share memories and condolences with the family at www.crandellfh.com. Arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.
