Obituary

Mrs. Doris Pohl passed away of prolonged complications brought about by congestive heart failure on March 4, 2001. She was born on August 24, 1910 to Clarence Webster and Ruth Webster Morse in Big Prairie Township near Hardy Dam. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Hollis Drake, who died in an auto accident in 1932, and her five brothers: Gordon, Ralph, Alfred, Albert, and Clifton. Her sister, Esther Arnold of Grant, is her only living sibling. Her second husband of 51 years, Stanley Pohl, died of cancer in 1984. She leaves two sons and their families: Kenneth and Mary Lou Drake of Owosso, and Keith and Roberta Pohl of Mason, as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great-grand-children. Mrs. Pohl grew up in Big Prairie and attended White Cloud High School. On the eve of the Great Depression she moved to the Muskegon area where she spent most of her mid-adult life. After her sons completed school, she became the supervisor of the cafeteria at the Muskegon Heights Senior High School, a position she held for 17 years until her retirement in 1969. She and her husband moved back to Newaygo County and settled in Fremont where she lived until her death. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2:00 from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont with Rev. David Dickinson of the Fremont Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with interment in the Big Prairie Cemetery at a later date. Rather than flowers, the family urges donations to the ministry of the Christian Church of Fremont, where she found many supportive and caring friends in her later years.
