Doris M. (Rought) Bolles, age 97 of Hesperia, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont following a short illness. Doris was born on April 5, 1924 in Clare County along with her twin brother, Dale Rought, to Basil and Martha (Goodenow) Rought and the twins graduated from Hesperia High School. Doris later met and married Ivan Cash Bolles who brought his son, Larry "Joe" Bolles to the family and later, Fran, Bill and Pat completed the family. Doris was the first female bus driver at Hesperia High School and drove school bus for over 20 years until her retirement. Doris was a cowgirl for many years, helping Ivan raise, buy and sell horses. They took their kids and kids' friends on weekend camping horseback riding trips for many years when the kids were younger. Doris and Ivan supplied horses to Camp Keewano in Hesperia and Camp Echo in Fremont for over 20 years and harvested life long friendships with some of the campers. After retirement, Doris had been a volunteer driver at the Newaygo County Commission on Aging and the Department of Health and Human Services. Doris loved reading, riding horses, dancing, visiting Lake Michigan, taking walks, listening to music, playing cards, Yahtzee and swimming, but the greatest joy in Doris' life was her family. She was a great mom, grandma, sister and aunt. She was spunky and strong and was blessed to live alone in her own home until hours before she passed away at the Newaygo County Compassion Home. She was loved by many and many were blessed to have had her in their lives and her life mattered. Doris is survived by her children, Larry "Joe" (Dorothy) Bolles of Hesperia; Fran (Harold) Dulin of Hesperia; Pat (Liz) Bolles of New Era; grandchildren – David, Ty, Scott, Butch, Megan, Annie, Bill, Travis, Tate, Stacey, Luke and Jeff; several great and great great grandchildren; her sister, Jeane (Ray) Syers and several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jill & Steve Baltzer. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Cash Bolles on March 26, 1975; her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sharon Bolles; her sister Vivian Laisure; her brother, Dale Rought. A Celebration of Life will be held for Doris on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m at the Hesperia American Legion. Interment will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery next to her husband.
