Obituary

Doris E. Smith, age 83 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont following a short illness. Doris was born on April 5, 1931 in Hesperia to Herbert William and Ferne Jane (Frink) Brickey and later married George Smith on August 20, 1948 in Muskegon. George preceded her in death in 1995. Doris has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia area where she had worked in the kitchen of the Hesperia Public Schools for over 25 years until her retirement. After retirement, Doris volunteered at the HAGS Gift Shop at Gerber Memorial Health Services until 2014. Doris was a member of the Hesperia Presbyterian Church and had been past President of the Hesperia American Legion Auxiliary. Doris especially treasured her time spent with her grandchildren. Doris is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Mick) Kokx of Hickory Corners, Michigan; Joni (Mike) Gerard of Branch, Michigan; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Wilkerson; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Brickey; Linda Brickey; Irene (George) Fassett; brother-in-law, Harold (Tous) Smith of Hesperia; and her dog, Darby. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Cober; great granddaughter, Cassidy Cober; son-in-law, Butch Cober; her sisters, Mercile Myers and LuAnne Sumner; her brothers, Herbert Brickey and Raymond Brickey; brothers-in-law, Bob Wilkerson, Wilbur Smith, Basil Myers, and Myron Sumner. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Monday, April 6, 2015 at 11am at the Hesperia Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dick Cotton presiding with INTERMENT in the West Hesperia Cemetery.
