Doris Marie Vander Ploeg, age 76 of White Cloud, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont. Doris was born on January 28, 1946 in Carbon Hill, Alabama to George and Rachel Baughn and later met and married Michael A. Vander Ploeg on August 11, 1961 at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Doris had attended Grand Rapids Junior College where she received her accounting degree. Doris worked at the General Motors Company, 36th Street Plant in the Quality Control Department for over 30 years until her retirement. Doris was known for her hard work ethic, enjoyed canoeing, living on the White River, feeding and watching the birds outside her home, quilting, knitting and crocheting items of which she donated to kids at True North Community Services. She was a devoted wife and mother to her husband and children. Doris is survived by her husband of 61 years, Michael of White Cloud; her sons, Scott (Stephanie) Vander Ploeg of Howard City; Nathan Vander Ploeg of Newaygo; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; her sister, Becky Bullis of Newaygo. Doris was preceded in death by her sons, Keith Vander Ploeg; Shawn Vander Ploeg and Michael Vander Ploeg Jr.. Private services will be held at the family home in White Cloud.
