Obituary

Dorothea Ann Dottie Smith, age 83, of White Cloud passed away on Sunday August 11, 2013 at Raybrook Manor Holland Home in Grand Rapids. Dottie was born on January 19, 1930 in White Cloud to Walter Ross and Emma B. (Schotts) Graves and married Leonard Smith on May 19, 1950 in White Cloud. Dottie worked as an assistant at the White Cloud Schools for many years, was a para pro at the White Cloud Schools for 15 years, enjoyed gardening, playing pinochle with the White Cloud pinochle group, was chairman of the March of Dimes, and was proud to have been a cheerleader when she was attending Michigan State University. Dottie was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud and active in the Alter Society. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and was grandma to many kids in White Cloud. Dottie is survived by her husband, Leonard; children, Michael (Sandra) Smith, David R. Smith, Charles P. Smith, Jennifer K. Smith, Thressa A. (Arthur) Hoekstra, Steven M. (Vicki) Smith, and Richard L. Smith; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Peter Graves; sisters, Virginia Thomasma, and Kaye Katt; sister-in-law Virginia (Graves) Dolphin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, John Graves, Mary Stuewer, Grace Milton, and Clinton Graves. There will be visitation on Thursday August 15, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM with a Rosary at 7:30 at the Crandell Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 11AM from the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society for the hall kitchen fund. Friends may share memories and condolences online at crandellfh.com.
