Obituary

Dorothy M. DeLong, age 89 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Hillcrest Nursing Center in Muskegon with her family by her side. Dorothy was born on March 9, 1923 in Otto Township to Ernest and Clara Belle (Noble) Birch and graduated from Hesperia High School in 1940. Due to her shy nature, teachers used to say still waters run deep which meant to her she was scared to death to talk! Dorothy married Charles E. DeLong in 1948 in Hesperia and lived and worked on the family farm for over 50 years. Charles preceded her in death on June 22, 2006. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was an avid reader, seamstress and quilter from a very young age. In the last several years, her project was to make quilts for all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a Life Member of the Order of Eastern Star, Eureka Chapter #38 and had served on various committees in her younger years. She was a member of the Hesperia United Methodist Church. SURVIVORS : her children, Ronald (Marti) DeLong of Belmont; Charlene (Thomas Jr.) Tenbrink of Fremont; Cheryl (Dwayne Red) Meyette of Fremont; Steven (Eileen) DeLong of Hesperia; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; her uncle, Howard (Nila) Noble of Muskegon; her sister-in-laws, Vionne James of Alabama; Marjorie DeLong of Florida; Maxine Annis Johnson of Hesperia; Shirley Maat of Fremont; several cousins. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Thomas and her brother, Hubert Birch. VISITATION : Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11am at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. INTERMENT : West Hesperia Cemetery MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Hesperia United Methodist Church or charity of the donors choice.
