Beloved mom and grandmother Dorothy (Dottie) Garrison died June 18, 2022. Dottie was born in Bitely, Michigan on May 22, 1921, to Evaline and William Kirk. She married William E. Garrison on April 13, 1944, in Winfield, Kansas, and he preceded her in death in October 1999. They were long-time residents of Muskegon and members of the First Congregational Church in Muskegon for several years. Dottie had worked as an administrative assistant for the City of Muskegon for many years prior to her retirement.
Dottie was devoted to her children, grandchildren and a close circle of friends, often putting their needs before her own. She found humor in daily life and had a "silly" sense of humor. An example of this humor is that she wanted her obituary to read "I was here and now I'm not". She found great joy in elaborately decorating birthday cards to sent to her loved ones and sneakily decorating the doors of her fellow senior community residents for their birthdays. She was a ray of sunshine to everyone who knew her. She had a creative spirit and encouraged and uplifted everyone around her.
She called Muskegon home until a stroke in November 2016 sent her to the Newaygo Medical Care Facility where she passed.
Dottie will be dearly missed by her daughter, Diane (Richard – deceased) Carlson of Muskegon and their daughter Mary (Eric) Rochow of Lansing; daughter, Lynne (Michael) Bourdon of Hesperia and Lynne's daughter Laurie (Pat) Feola of Oregon; daughter, Nancy (Randy) Jaekel of Alabama and Nancy's son Tony (Leslie) Geers of Florida. Her great-grandchildren include Lucy Mae Rochow, Madeleine Feola, Sebastien Feola, Livvy Geers, Jaxon Geers, and Lea Geers. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Dottie was preceded in death by her father, William Kirk; baby daughter, Susan; step-father, John Kramer; mother, Evaline Kramer; sister, Helen Kwolek; step-brother, Eugene Kramer D.O.; and son-in-law, Richard Carlson.
