Dorothy Schropp, age 88 of Hesperia, passed away Saturday morning, September 3, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Muskegon following a short illness. Dorothy was born on November 23, 1927 in Fremont to Herman and Anna (Jordan) Ekkel and married Robert J. Schropp on May 18, 1956 in White Cloud. Robert preceded her in death on July 17, 2016. Dorothy had worked at the Dime Store in Fremont and later at Gerber Products until 1956 when she and Robert were married and then became a homemaker, raising her family and also worked on the family dairy farm until her retirement. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, fishing at the farm lake, squeezing her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing the accordion, organ and piano and traveling in her younger years. Dorothy is survived by her children, Mary Anne (Frank) Samples of Lansing; Mark (Jennifer) Schropp of Bitely; James (Kathryn) Schropp of Whitehall; John Schropp of Alabama; Amy Schropp of Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren due in October; her sisters and brothers, Florence Ekkel; Margaret Gritman; Marvin (Martha) Ekkel; Lorraine (Al) DeKam; Herman (Joanne) Ekkel; Phillip Ekkel; several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Anna; her husband, Robert; and her brother, David Ekkel. Private services will be held at the family farm following cremation.
