IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorsey
Leckrone
May 20, 1911 – May 2, 2001
Mr. Dorsey D. Leckrone, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Gerber Memorial Health Services. He was born on May 20, 1911, in Brethren, Michigan, to George and Cora (Ulrey) Leckrone. On May 21, 1938, he married Sally Busick. He taught school for 41 years, having begun teaching at 19 years old. Twenty-five of those years were in the Fremont Public Schools where Dorsey always looked forward to Mondays because he loved teaching children. One of his proudest accomplishments was starting the sixth grade camping program to give youth experience with nature. In addition, he sold World Book Encyclopedia to many young families in the area. Dorsey was a founding member of the Newaygo County Service Employers Credit Union, an active member of the Lions Club, as well as one of the original Hospice Volunteers. Besides farming for most of his life, he and Lyle Myers kept bees for many years. Dorsey was a long-time member of the Fremont United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir for many years. In all of his relationships, he could always be counted on for a helping hand and a good story. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally; his 8 children: Rev. Donald (Jeannine) Leckrone of Antwerp, Ohio, Ruth (Frank) Parker of Saline, Michigan, Gerald (Jan) Leckrone of Ann Arbor, Michigan, John Leckrone of Williamston, Michigan, Rev. Rebecca Leckrone of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Margaret (John) Adams of Austin, Texas, George (Carolyn) Leckrone of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Carole (Alex) Mintzer of Orange, California; 11 grandchildren; and 8 greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Velda Christiansen of Clifton Illinois, Ardith (Richard) King of Manton, Ohio, and Edith (Vernon) Campbell of Milford, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his 5 brothers and 2 sisters. A memorial service of remembrance was held on Friday, May 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the Fremont United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Duncan officiating. For a more lasting memorial, the family asks that friends consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Fremont United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
