It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Edward Earl announces the passing of Doug. Douglas Edward Earl, age 58 of Bowling Green, Kentucky, formerly of Fremont and Hesperia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Park Ridge West Hospital in Jasper, Tennessee. Doug was born on March 21, 1960 in Fremont to Roger and Dorothy (Osborn) Earl and graduated from Fremont High School in 1978. Doug later married Sandra Kaye Balcom on August 27, 1983 in Hesperia. Doug was a faithful member of Christ The King Catholic Church while residing in Hesperia where he had been a member of the St. Michael Catholic School Board, substitute school bus driver, Monday night Bingo caller , lector and usher. Doug later moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky where he was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and had been a volunteer bus driver so the Burmese parishioners could attend Mass.
Doug's passion for entertainment started his career in his early years as a DJ at WSHN and later worked at the Fremont Chamber of Commerce supporting the community in various activities. He later started work at Gerber Products Company and was instrumental in starting the Gerber Product Store. Later in his life Doug's enthusiasm in Nascar brought him to work for Nascar driver Matt Kenseth - #17 as a show car driver and later for Valvoline for NHRA races. In his most recent career, Doug worked for Terry and Doug Chandler – Sponsors of the NHRA Funny Cars, Make-A-Wish and Infinite Hero Foundation. Doug enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and celebrities, Nascar, bowling, hunting, traveling, driver, Vernors and Patriots football. He also enjoyed sharing his talent as Santa to many homes each year delighting children.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sandra Kaye of Bowling Green, Kentucky; his son, Steven Douglas Earl of Bowling Green, Kentucky; his father, Roger Earl of Fremont; his sisters, Linda (George) McCall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Susan Foss of Fremont; Peggy Myers of Spanish Fort, Alabama; mother-in-law, Lucille Balcom of Hesperia; sisters-in-laws, Debra (Rich) Wilbur of Hesperia; Luci (Scott) Moore of Newaygo; brothers-in-law, Gordon (Jane) Balcom of Hesperia; Gary Balcom of Grand Rapids; many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Doug was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Earl; his brother, David Earl; brother-in-law, Larry Foss and father-in-law, Gordon Balcom.
VISITATION : Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 6-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel and Friday, November 2, 2018 from 10-11am at Christ The King Catholic Church in Hesperia. ROSARY SERVICES : Thursday at 8pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL : Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11am at Christ The King Catholic Church in Hesperia. INTERMENT : Christ The King Catholic Cemetery in Hesperia. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Make-A-Wish Foundation in Michigan or West Catholic Schools – supporting education in Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools.
