Duane "Butch" Douglas Johnson Sr., age 82 of Croton, formerly of Southern California, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home. Duane was born on April 14, 1941, in Jackson, Michigan to Elmer and Helen (Sisler) Johnson and later married his high school sweetheart, Patricia "PJ" (Fralick) Johnson on March 23, 1963. He joined the Navy serving aboard the USS Hornet, where he worked in maintenance. After returning home from the Navy, he worked and retired from Honeywell after 30+ years as a supervisor. He and Pat raised their 3 boys in Southern California where they enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping with their family at the Colorado River. After Pat also retired from Honeywell, they moved back to Michigan and settled on the Muskegon River in Croton. Duane spent the next 20+ years as a member of the Croton American Legion, where he and Pat were both very involved. He served as the Post Commander from 2006-2008 and was also a member of the 40/8 where he served as Chef de Gar.
Duane is survived by his children, Brian Salicco of Morley; Troy (Brenda) Johnson of Westminster, California; Duane Johnson Jr of Santa Ana, California; and Jenney (Jim) Green of Howard City; his grandsons, Kevin (Nicole) Johnson of White Cloud; and Austin Johnson of Westminster, California; his granddaughter, Joelle (Scott) Hagadus of Howard City; great grandchildren, Beau, Korbin, Ryan, Elliott, Landon, Connor, and Paige; a sister Phyllis (Robert) Snyder of Williamston; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia (PJ) Johnson and her beloved grandson Travis Johnson.
