Obituary

Ober, Earl "Obie" F. Earl Obie F. Ober, age 78 of Newaygo, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2005 at his home following a short illness surrounded by his family. Earl was born on May 21, 1927 in Ravenna, Michigan to Clarence and Gertrude (Mathews) Ober and married Dorothy McDonald on November 5, 1955 in Fremont. He had been a truck driver for Michigan Produce Haulers, MPH and Gilliland Trucking for 38 years until retirement. He was a member of the Newaygo Lions Club, Teamsters Local 406 and enjoyed farming and loved spending time with his family. He served in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954 and was a life member of the Newaygo V.F.W.Post #4249. He was well known for his on the farm butchering and was well thought of by all that knew him. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy; seven children, Diana Thornbury of Newaygo; Kathy (Jim) Ferguson of Newaygo; Mike (Kathy) Ober of Caledonia; Patrick (Linda) Ober of Orleans; Thomas (Kim) Ober of Morrisonville, Wisconsin; Sue (Robert) Scott of Newaygo Irwin Ober of Evansville, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Peggy) Ober of Pembroke Pines, Florida; special niece, Dori (Bob) Dye of Newaygo; special friend of the family, Barbara Sweet of Newaygo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edwin Ober, killed during WW II and a son-in-law, Hugh Tharp. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with Pastor Lucky Fulton presiding military rites given by the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249 with interment in the St. Bartholomew Catholic Cemetery in Newaygo. Friends may consider Hospice of Michigan for memorial contributions in memory of Earl.
