Edith L. Smith, age 87 of Holton, passed away Friday at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Edith was born on June 14, 1920 in Lake City, MI and later married Frank Smith on March 31, 1939 in White Cloud. Frank preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 2001. Edith had worked as a dietician at Gerber Hospital and later retired from the Michigan Regional Center in Muskegon and was a member of the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church. Edith was active in the Holton American Legion Ladies Aux.; was a volunteer for over 25 years at the Holton Blood Drive; enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and baking. She is survived by her sons, James (Judith) Smith of Whitehall; Richard (Janice) Smith of Twin Lake; William (Kaye) Smith of West Olive; Jack (Penny) Smith of Montague; Larry (Terri) Smith of Fremont; Steve (Pam) Smith of Holton; 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith; her grandsons, Larry Lee Smith Jr. and James Smith Jr. and by 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Pastor Paul Zager of the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church presiding with interment in the Clark Cemetery.
