It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edith Joan Thompson, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who peacefully passed away on September 9, 2026, just days shy of her 87th birthday. Edith was a beloved resident of White Cloud, Michigan, where she was known for her kind heart and generous spirit. Born on September 20, 1939, Edith was the daughter of Earl and Beulah Bement. She shared a beautiful marriage with her late husband, David N. Thompson.
Professionally, Edith dedicated many years to her role as a receptionist at Bronson Hospital, where she became a friendly and familiar face to many. Edith had a zest for life that was evident in her passions: traveling to Florida, golfing, playing shuffleboard, playing cards, bowling, nonstop walks, and boating. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, enriching her days with church activities and fellowship.
Edith is survived by her devoted daughters, Dawn (Gary) Geigle and Darla (Jeff) Wilks, and her loving grandchildren, Gary Jr. (Nicole), Mike (Jeni), Lydia, Jeffery (Wendy), and Jessica (Charlie). She was also a proud great-grandmother to Michael and Mya, who brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Beulah Bement, her husband David Thompson, and her siblings Gordon, Bonnie, Jean, and Milt.
The family invites friends and loved ones to gather for a celebration of Edith’s life. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Crandell Funeral Homes - Fremont Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the same location. After the funeral service, friends are invited to a graveside service at Lincoln Cemetery in White Cloud, MI, at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Newaygo County Compassion Home, an organization close to Edith’s heart. Arrangements have been provided by Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud Chapel.
