Obituary

Edna M. Higgins, age 95 of Grant, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 at her home in Grant following a short illness. Edna was born on May 30, 1919 in Grand Rapids to George C. and Edna (Welling) Williams and has been a lifelong resident of the Grant. Edna married Clayton Higgins on January 18, 1941 in North Mills, North Carolina. Clayton preceded her in death on November 17, 2004. Edna had worked at Sparta Piston Ring for nearly 30 years until her retirement. Edna enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding and watching the birds and traveling extensively throughout the United States, but especially treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edna was looking forward to the arrival of her first great great granddaughter due in February. Edna is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren - daughter, Anna (Ron) Jensen of Newaygo and their children, granddaughter, Julie (Andrew) Overley and great grand daughter, Hannah; granddaughter Susan (Kevin) Forbes and great grandsons, Bret Forbes, Chad Deitz and Cory Deitz; grandson, Steve Jensen and great grandsons, Austin and Travis Jensen; daughter, Kathleen (Dennis) Gundling of Cota de Caza, California; daughter, Debra (James) Arend of Salem, New York and their children, grandson, Kristopher Arend, grandson, Anthony (Lauren) Arend and great grandchildren, Amiyah and Clayton; daughter, Shirley (Scott) Shears of Grant and their children, grandson, Duane (Aimee) Shears and great grandchildren, Shayla and Zachary; granddaughter, Courtney (Brent) Foondle and great grandchildren, Carson and Brooklyn; grandson, Cameron Shears; and special caregiver, Kim from Aegin Place. Edna was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Linda; sister, Ginny DeHaus; brother, George, Bob, Pat, Raymond, and Edward Williams. Following Edna's wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will take place in the Ashland Township Cemetery. In memory of Edna, friends may consider memorial contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project (Donate Wounded Warrior Project), DeVos Children's Hospital Foundation (donate to Helen DeVos Childrens Hospital) or Heartland Hospice 1053 W Main Street Fremont MI 49412-1408. The family wishes to thank the caregivers, staff and nurses at Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion given to Edna.
