Edward Kolbe Jr., age 83 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday morning, January 10, 2017 in Rochester, Minnesota while visiting the Mayo Clinic. Ed was born on January 22, 1933 in Leavitt Township to Edward B. and Blanche Millie (Hall) Kolbe and has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia area where he graduated from Hesperia High School in 1951. Ed was one of the founding members of the Klondyke Saddle Club and competed in rodeos throughout Michigan in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Ed had been a farmer and seed dealer all his life, had been a school bus driver in Hesperia for over 20 years. Ed had served as Newfield Township Clerk for 34 years from 1980 until 2014 and was a member of the Reeman Christian Reformed Church. Ed married Evelyn Ballagh Carter on December 5, 1981 in Hesperia. Evelyn preceded him in death on November 20, 2016.

Ed is survived by his children, Ken (Kim) Kolbe; Kaye (Cindy Kulas) Kolbe; Kelly (Wendy) Kolbe; Scott (Barb) Carter; Terry Carter; Kelly (Martin) Johnson; his grandchildren, Kyler Kolbe, Keaton Kolbe, Danielle Harrington, Michael Burnside, Edward Kolbe, Melissa Carter, Michael Carter, Dustin Carter, Jason (Nichole) Carter, Kimberly Walker, Jennifer Delap, Hailey Johnson, Brock Johnson; 6 great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Brown, Glen Brown, James "Polk" Kolbe and his sister, Helen Chase.

VISITATION : Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4-7pm at the Crandell Funeral Home -7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412. FUNERAL SERVICES : Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 am at the Reeman Christian Reformed Church 6121 S Fitzgerald Ave Fremont MI 49412. INTERMENT : West Hesperia Cemetery in the spring of 2017. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Community Foundation of Oceana County for the Ed and Evelyn Kolbe Fund, checks payable to Community Foundation of Oceana County.
