Edward A. Stankus, age 64 of Fremont, formerly of Grand Rapids and White Cloud, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 at his home following a short illness. Ed was born on December 24, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank G. and Antoinette Stankus. Antoinette passed away when Ed was 10 years old in 1955. Ed grew up in White Cloud and graduate from White Cloud High School and joined the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Vietnam War. Ed had been a laborer and had been a cab driver for Calder City Cab Company until his retirement. Ed had enjoyed gardening and hunting for many years. Ed is survived by his mother, Helen Stankus of Fremont; his son, Dale Sherman of Fargo, North Dakota; 3 grandsons, Justin, Brandon, and Taylar; his brothers and sister, Mary (Allen) Berkowitz of Phoenix, Arizona; Francis (Lynn) Stankus of Fremont; Frederick (Gisella) Stankus of Los Angeles, California; several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his father, Frank in 1997 and by his sister, Adrienne Stankus in 1982. VISITATION : Monday, May 31, 2010 from 6-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:30am at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. INTERMENT : St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in White Cloud. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Hospice of Michigan Newaygo County. My sincere condolences to all of you. Ed is a very special person and I remember how kind and helpful he was to Helen during his last "good" winter...making sure she was taken care of, shoveling snow, and getting the car running so Helen and I could have our occasional trip to WalMart. He was indeed fortunate to have you, Fran and Lynn, to take care of him during his time of need. He is in God's Hands now....may he rest in peace. Ferol B.
