Elaine Marie McDaniel, age 80 of Fremont passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013 at her home. Elaine was born on March 22, 1933 to Owen Steiner and Mildred (Roberts) Swanson in Manton, Michigan. Elaine married Glen A. McDaniel on June 2, 1953 in Anderson, Indiana and together, they moved to the Fremont area in 1963. Elaine had worked for Fremont Public Schools for over 20 years at Pine Street and Daisy Brooks Schools until her retirement. Elaine was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the United Methodist Womens Group. She had also been a volunteer at Fremont Public Library and Gerber Memorial Hospital. Elaine loved to travel and enjoyed many winters in Englewood, Florida after her retirement. She was admired by her friends and family for her wonderful cooking and baking skills. Elaine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Glen of Fremont; she will be fondly remembered by her family which includes four sons, Gregg (Denise) McDaniel of Fremont; Patrick (Eleanor) McDaniel of Cache, Oklahoma; Brian (Lynn) McDaniel of Schoolcraft, Michigan; and Randy McDaniel (Terri) of Portage, Michigan; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Richardson of Comstock Park, Michigan. Elaine was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Kunkel and Dorothy Munson. Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 4:00pm at the Fremont United Methodist Church with a time of visitation 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Manton, Michigan following cremation. Friends may consider Hospice of Michigan, Newaygo County or Fremont United Methodist Church for memorial contributions in memory of Elaine.
