Elaine Marie (Palm) Sherman, age 95, of Hesperia passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at her home. Elaine was born on May 10, 1922, in Lakeview, Michigan to Gustaf Arthur and Mae V. (Faling) Palm and graduated from Lakeview High School and attended Davenport Institute in Grand Rapids in 1942. She came to Fremont in 1943 to work as a stenographer for the Pere Marquette Railroad, delivering telegrams during WWII. Elaine married Gale Lee Sherman on October 4, 1946, at the Fremont United Methodist Church and helped on the farm in Dayton Center and Holton. She moved to Hesperia in 1961 and was active in the Women's Extension Club and N&O Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Hesperia United Methodist Church, was active in the United Methodist Women, served as Sunday school secretary, and served on many committees and boards. Elaine is survived by her children, Larry (Jean) Sherman of Fremont, Nancy (Peter) Walzer and Bruce (Rosie) Sherman of Hesperia; grandchildren, Katie (Marcus) Sabo, Mark (fiancée` Danielle Roland) Sherman, Melodee (Brian) Pierce, John Sherman, Sabrina Sherman; Mariah Walzer; great-grandchildren, Travis Sabo, Kurtis, Rain, and Emmalee Pierce. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gale in 2010, and brother, George Donald Palm in 1991.
