Obituary

Elaine (Hansen) Tinney, 96, of Fremont and Grand Rapids, died on October 30, 2016. She was born on January, 4, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Inez (Noud) Hansen, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Frank, Jim and Jack and by her sisters Claudia, Geddy, and Carol. She married LaMonte Tinney in 1941; he died in 2005. Their son, Patrick, died in 1959. She is survived by her youngest sister Marilyn (Howard) Swanson and her sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hansen and Laura Hansen. She leaves three children, Jane (Bill) Whittington, James (Hope) Tinney and Mary Tinney (Jeremy Kane). Her grandchildren are Elisabeth (Scott) Loos, Annie (Sam) VandenBerg, Riley Tinney, Joseph Tinney, Katharine Tinney, Emma Kane and Jack Kane. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Thomas, Anna and Samuel Loos and Henry and Peter Vandenberg.

Elaine was an avid reader, a great cook and a skilled seamstress. She was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, an enthusiastic golfer and a faithful member of the Fremont Congregational Church. Always ready with a helping hand, a kind word or a listening ear, she gave without asking anything in return and will be missed by her many friends and family members.

More than anything, Elaine loved spending time with her family, her children and grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, and her extended family. Her children and grandchildren know they were dearly loved. They will miss their Mom and Nana but feel blessed that she was in their lives.

A memorial service will be held November 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel, 7193 48th Street, Fremont. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are urged to make donations to the Fremont Area District Library in memory of Elaine.
