Eldon D. "Sam" Crotser, age 92 of Newaygo, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility following a short illness. Sam was born on August 15, 1927 in Battle Creek to Floyd David and Alma Ruth (Kniffen) Crotser and later graduated from Newaygo High School. Sam has been a lifelong resident of the Newaygo area where he had been a production worker at General Motor's Fischer Body Plant on Alpine Avenue in Grand Rapids for 29 years until his retirement. Sam was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed all sports; enjoyed spending time with his family and in his younger years enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Sam is survived by his children, Bonnie (Tim) Roberts of Clarksville, Tennessee; Connie Crotser of Newaygo, Martin (Joyce) Crotser of Newaygo, Denise (Richard) Wheeler of Newaygo, Dean (Christy) Crotser of Newaygo; step daughter, Karen Strecker of White Cloud; grandchildren, Brandon and Chad Roberts; Stephanie Barr; Seth Cribbs; Vanessa and Eric Crotser; Josh Wheeler; Christian, Corey and Camden Crotser; Trevor, Scott and Troy Reyburn; Celyst Wills and many great grandchildren; his sisters, Frances Fox; Beatrice Newton, Verda Bushen and Sylvia Wright; several nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; his brother, Alvin Crotser; his sisters, Dorothy Hunter, Evelyn Rounds, Helen Cattanach, and Doris Corrigan.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer of 2020 at the family reunion. Interment will be in the Newaygo Cemetery. Friends may consider NMCF Patient Fund in memory of Sam.
