Eleanor (Stoike) Battreall, age 93 of Zeeland, formerly of Fremont, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Providence Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Zeeland. Eleanor, the eldest of 4 children of Emil and Ida (Wolgemuth) Stoike Sr., was born on August 1, 1919 in Chicago and moved to Allegan at an early age. Eleanor married William Bill D. Battreall on November 10, 1943 in Grand Rapids and together they spent their early marriage years in Grand Rapids before moving to Fremont where she lived for nearly 50 years on Dayton Street. After their retirement, Eleanor and Bill built a log home on Cole Creek north of Fremont where they enjoyed entertaining with a cool breeze from the creek. Eleanor had been a secretary at the Gerber Guest House for several years and later retired from the Newaygo County Commission on Aging. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Joann Steinford of Groton, Connecticut; her sister-in-law, Norma Dozeman of Holland; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her brothers, Rowland Stoike, Albert Stoike and Emil Stoike Jr. VISITATION : Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 11-12 at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with FUNERAL SERVICES at 12pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street. INTERMENT : Lincoln Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Newaygo County Commission on Aging.
