M. Elisabeth "Liz" Halbower, age 87 of Holton, passed away Thursday evening, October 23, 2014 at the Great Lakes Specialty Hospital in Muskegon. Elisabeth was born on October 21, 1927 in Holton to Otto Benjamin and Margaret Belle (Noble) Syers and graduated from Holton High School. Elisabeth later graduated from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids in 1948 and had a long career as a Registered Nurse and was a charter member of the Certification of Operating Room Nursing. Liz had been the Director of Surgical Services and Critical Care at Hackley Hospital; worked as a surgical supervisor at the following locations, Ochsier Clinic in New Orleans, HCA in Nashville, Tennessee, Munson Hospital in Traverse City, St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, and at various locations at her favorite place to live, Florida. She was also in the Who's Who of American Women in 1979, member of ACORN, an avid reader, always interested in current events and a loving grandmother.

Elisabeth is survived by her children, William (Nancy) Halbower of Holton; Lisa (Stan) Bush of Montague; Lee Ann Halbower of Holton; her grandchildren, Billy Halbower (Courtney); Ben Halbower (Leah); Elisabeth Janusiewicz; Maren (Mike) Bronkema; brother, Donald (Jeane) Syers of Fremont; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Syers of Muskegon; Dorothy Halbower; brother-in-law, Carl (Florence) Johnson of Muskegon; caregivers and "our angels", Tonya Hudson and Kari Suchecki. She also wanted to send a special good-bye to all her friends at the "Chicken Farm" in Florida. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karlyn Kay Halbower; husband William; brothers, Robert Syers Jr., Junior Syers, Jimmie Syers; and her sisters, Mary Syers, Patty Pyatt.

VISITATION : Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 5-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00am at the Holton United Methodist Church 935 Holton Duck Lake Road. INTERMENT : Oakwood Cemetery in Holton.
