Elizabeth Betty J. Monroe, age 92, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. She was born on August 4, 1918, in Thompson, Michigan, to Francis and Melvina (Farley) Atkinson. Betty married Everett Monroe in 1935 in Pontiac, Michigan, where she lived most of her adult life in the Pontiac and Waterford/Drayton Plains areas. She was a clerk for the Oakland County Sheriffs Department for many years until her retirement in 1978. Following retirement, Betty and Everett moved to the Petosky/Burt Lake areas of Northern Michigan. They are survived by their daughters, Sandra Brady and Sue Morrish, both of White Cloud; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; brothers and sisters, Earl Atkinson, Clyde Atkinson, Muriel Zuehlke, and Grace Winges; and one grandchild Tammy Bennett. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 1 PM, at the Burt Lake Christian Church in Alanson, with Pastor Glen McIntyre officiating.
