Obituary

Elveer (known to friends and family as Bud) Heiss, 89 of Fremont, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Grant, Michigan to Ella (Spinks) Raffle, he lived most of his life in the Fremont area. Bud is survived by his wife Margaret of 67 years, daughters Linda and Jeannie, sons Randy and Brian, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Bud was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone he met. Bud graduated from Fremont High School in 1943 where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He was awarded the Spatafore Trophy in 1943 for scholastic and athletic achievements. After graduation he immediately was drafted to World War II and served as a Belly Gunner on a B17 Flying Fortress in the 401st Bomb Group in England. He was awarded a purple heart for the injuries he sustained on his 11th mission. After his return to the United States, he worked for the Post Office for 35 years until his retirement November 30, 1979. After his retirement, Bud and Margaret traveled the United States and worked at quality and unique resorts. He also had the honor of working part time for Disney World in Orlando, Florida for 16 years. Bud loved people and never met a stranger. Helping out with his son, Randys greenhouse and watching sports were among his favorite things. He was always willing to lend friends and family a helping hand. His warm smile and friendly personality touched many lives. He will be remembered fondly and missed by all. A special thank you to Hospice of Michigan for their loving care and support. Visitation will be from noon to 1 PM on July 12th, 2014 at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Fremont Michigan; memorial services will follow visitation at the Church; and a luncheon will be held immediately following the memorial services.
