Emma DeWeerd, age 94 of Coopersville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids. Emma was born on May 28, 1917 in Evanston, Illinois to John and Mary (Lukaart) Wilholt and later married Warren DeWeerd on June 10, 1944 in Grand Rapids. Warren preceded her in death on April 9, 1973. Emma has been a longtime resident of the Coopersville area where she enjoyed being in the Michigan outdoors, fishing and taking drives in the car and especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandson, Nick. Emma is survived by her grandson, Nick (Becky) DeWeerd of Grant; her great grandson, Nick DeWeerd Jr.; her brother-in-law Don Kerkstra of Grandville; several nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her son, Warren DeWeerd on February 16, 2012; her daughter-in-law, Theresa DeWeerd on April 12, 2011 and by several sisters including Babe Kerkstra in 2011. Graveside services will be held at the Grandville Cemetery in Grandville following cremation.
