Mrs. Ethel Marie Denney, age 71, of Fremont passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2002, at home following a long illness. She was born on February 1, 1931, in Brookside (now a part of Fremont) to "Daddy" Clair and Gladys (Smith) Shively and married Joseph C. Denney on June 12, 1948, in Fremont. She was a life-long resident of Fremont and a member of the Sanctuary Church of God in Holton. Ethel is survived by her husband Joseph C. Denney of Fremont and formerly of Willow Springs, MO.; sons, Joseph C. (Peggy) Denney of Newaygo and Bernie (Lisa) Denney of Fremont; brother Clair (Ruth) Shively; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marie Adell; mother, Gladys Adams; father, "Daddy" Clair Shively; sisters, Iva Mosher and Jerry Clouse; 3 brothers Bill, Clyde, and Harvey Shively. Funeral services were held at 1 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2002, from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Gardner from the Sanctuary Church of God officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, the family asks that friends consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for Hospice of Newaygo County.
